Healthy Lifestyle
Developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle will change your life for the better. Staying healthy keeps you in a better mood, allows your body to cope with stress and aging and makes you a generally more balanced person. Basically a healthy lifestyle entails eating correctly, exercising sufficiently and limiting the amount of unnecessary stress you experience.
Eating Healthily
Understanding how to live a healthy lifestyle means understanding what food is necessary for a healthy lifestyle . Your body needs a well balanced diet every day in order to maintain the adequate amounts of vitamins, nutrients and minerals needed to maintain a healthy body. Thus eating for a healthy lifestyle should include breads, cereals and other grains, as well as organic vegetables, fruit, meat (including fish, poultry and eggs) and dairy products. These make up the five basic food groups. Remember too that some fats are required to allow for fat-soluble vitamins to be absorbed into the body.
An Active lifestyle
If you have come to the decision that living a healthy lifestyle is what you want, then you will need to work on your fitness. Physical fitness serves to prevent health problems so that you can take a pro-active approach to your health. Fitness keeps your weight in check, helps you sleep better at night, prevents heart attacks and strokes and generally prolongs your life.
Fitness, however, is something that requires a continuous active lifestyle. Those who have experienced the good health effects of being fit, however, seldom allow themselves to loose too much fitness. The following tips will assist you in maintaining an exercise program:
• Plan your program and follow it accordingly.
• Track your progress by keeping a diary.
• Measure your progress by comparing diary entries.
• As you improve your fitness, set yourself new goals.
• Look at yourself in the mirror and notice changes over time.
• Try entering races or competitions for the fun of competing.
• Train or exercise with a friend of a similar fitness level, or slightly fitter
• Allow for variety within your fitness or training routine.
• Join a club or group of people engaged in similar activities.
Coping with stress
One of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and exercising is the relaxation it brings. Working out can indirectly provide great stress relief sessions. There are, however, other ways to reduce the amount of stress you experience on a day to day basis. The following questions should reveal a pathway to improving your lifestyle and reducing stress levels:
• What do you wish you were doing, that you are currently not doing?
• Do you use your free time in a way that satisfies you?
• Can you identify your real friends, and do you see them often enough?
• Are you spending too much time around people who stress you out?
• Do you need to make sacrifices to achieve what you would like to do?
• Are you happy with your job?
• Do you like yourself and your physical appearance?
• Is your life too hectic, or not busy enough?
• What activities and which relationships in your past have you enjoyed the most?
